City College of San Fransisco – CNA Program


There are numerous colleges that offer CNA or Nurse assistant programs throughout California. About the College

Established in 1935, the college is a two-year community college accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community & Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It has multiple campuses and courses such as the associate of arts and science degree are available here.

About the Nurse Assistant Program

The home health aide program of CCSF makes an individual eligible and qualified for entry-level health care provider. The individual will also qualify for acute care and convalescent facilities.

The program is approved by the California State Department of Health Care Services. After successful completion, the students will be eligible to take Nurse Assistant Competency Examination and home health aide certification.

Duration and Center

The CNA program at CCSF takes one semester (or 4 months) to complete, and the nurse aide classes are available at the southeast center of CCSF, and some are provided at the clinical site.

Eligibility Criteria

There are certain conditions that a student must fulfill before enrolling into the nurse assistant program.

  • The individual must have completed 18 years of age.
  • S/he must have a current and valid CPR certificate.
  • The student must not have any criminal record and must pass a background test and drug test.
  • A report of physical exam and current immunization must be submitted.
  • The student must complete ESL L or ESL 150 or must place either in ESL 90 or ESL 150.
  • A fingerprint report must also be submitted to Department of Health Services.

Credits Awarded

3 credits are awarded after completing home health aide program.

Cost of the program

The cost is different for residents and non-residents of California. The cost per semester for credit classes, for residents is $46.

The non-resident has to pay $211 for the program, $46 as enrollment fee, $7 as capital outlay fee and $17 as health fee per semester.

The fee for state certification exam is $90 for the written exam and $105 for the oral version.

Note: The mentioned fee does not include charges of uniforms, textbooks, etc. Students have to purchase them separately.

Other Nursing Programs

Apart from nurse aide program, other programs offered by CCSF college are RN and LVN.
